Summary

We are looking for a graduate with aspirations of becoming a DBA or has already started work as a Junior DBA with knowledge and experience in database technologies specifically SQL Server and Postgres. The candidate will support and maintain database environments while playing a key role in technical support and troubleshooting.

Who are you?

  • You are passionate about data and databases and you have a desire to develop in a technically challenging role.
  • You will be working in a supportive team in a collaborative environment with experienced DBA's looking after the MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL Database services underpinning our SAAS application.
  • You will work on a wide variety of database technologies through support and project work offering lots of opportunities to develop your skills and experience, including VMWare, Amazon EC2 Public Cloud, Azure public Cloud.
  • You will work on supporting other database services used throughout the business, such as Aurora, MariaDB and even some Oracle and DB2.

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • Maintain the high availability and disaster recovery (HADR) systems including performing failover and failback.
  • Ensure backups and recoverability of databases.
  • Production monitoring of performance, capacity and scalability including raising archiving requirements.
  • Patching and version upgrades.
  • Project work such as disaster recovery site upgrades and database migrations.
  • Maintain the integrity and performance of the various environments through maintenance routines.
  • Provide on-call DBA support on a rota.

What we’re looking for:

Must have skills/experience:

  • Knowledge and/or experience with SQL Server and PostgreSQL in an IT support setting.
  • An understanding of Windows Server administration including Windows clustering.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with database backup strategies, security practices and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation tools for database management (PowerShell or Python).
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise.
  • Process orientated.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

Advantageous skills/experience:

  • SQL Server and PostgreSQL certifications.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working on AWS, Azure database technologies.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working on VMware.
  • ITIL or other industry certifications.
