Job description

A Special school in Hammersmith is looking for a support assistant to join their team to work in a class of 9 pupils aged 11-14 years of age. However, when needed, staff are expected to work across Primary and Secondary age groups. Needs of the pupils include:

  1. Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties
  2. Autism
  3. Complex Needs
  4. Physical Needs
  5. Challenging behaviours

The environment can be challenging, but the school has wonderful resources, is well thought of in the community, and the staff are dedicated and provide excellent care and education to the pupils.

The school retains a lot of staff and there are opportunities for career progression within the school, especially for aspiring teachers.

The pupils are working at P Levels of the National Curriculum and use PECS and Makaton to communicate, so experience or knowledge in these areas is required. Having a certificate in Team Teach (positive handling) is highly desired too in the successful teaching assistant. Some of the pupils require personal care, so this is part of the role.

Working hours are 8.30am-4.00pm and the role is Monday-Friday.

The school is looking for someone to start in April 2025, full-time, so if you think this is the role for you, please get in touch today.
