Job description

Herdsperson Job / Couple Required on Family Run Dairy Farm - Wiltshire

Exciting career opportunity on a family-run dairy farm. We are looking for a progressive herdsperson for our 270 HF high genetic herd.

We supply milk on a lucrative milk contract, so high herd health and welfare, along with a sustainable enterprise, is essential. Responsibilities include:

  1. Participating in milking
  2. Cow health and welfare
  3. Youngstock and calf duties
  4. Grassland management
  5. Maintaining a clean and tidy parlour, dairy, and general farm appearance
  6. TMR feeding

The 10,000 litre herd is milked twice daily through a 24/24 HB parlour. They graze extensively through the summer months and are cubicle housed during the winter. We run a closed herd with homebred heifers that are genomic tested at birth. The best heifers are served to sexed HF semen and the remainder to sexed/conventional AA. We are BVD vaccinated free and have practically zero Johnes. AI is outsourced to a breeding company, with fortnightly routine vet visits and monthly foot trimming.

We also farm 650 acres comprising grass leys including red clover and herbal leys, maize, and wheat all within the main homestead and close by.

Accommodation includes a 3-bedroom detached house with a new kitchen and bathroom and a large garden, located within walking distance of the farm. A variety of shops and good primary and secondary schools are within a few miles, making it suitable for a family. Alternatively, a static caravan on site is available for individuals.

We offer a 5-day working week with attractive remuneration for the successful applicant.

Please only apply if you are seriously looking and will reply to telephone/messages, as this job is re-advertised due to time wasters.
