Location: Gateshead, NE8
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent (Continental 4-shift rotation)
Salary: £42,016 (Inclusive of SA) (+ Annual Bonus)

Central Employment are proudly representing a leading engineering firm, based in Gateshead, by recruiting a permanent Electrical Maintenance Technician to join their team. If you are an experienced Electrical Maintenance Technician, with a background in heavy engineering, apply now for an immediate response! A leading industrial company is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician (Electrical Bias or Multi-Skilled) to join their growing Maintenance Department. The company specializes in the production of steel plates for various sectors, including construction, bridges, and renewable energy. Following continued success and record-breaking results, they are looking to expand their team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair plant equipment both proactively (e.g., Preventative Maintenance) and reactively (e.g., breakdowns).
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and upgrades to existing machinery.
  • Work safely at all times, following health and safety instructions, procedures, and safety systems such as permits and lockouts.
  • Identify the root causes of equipment failures and communicate findings to relevant personnel.
  • Ensure timely handover of any incomplete work at the end of each shift.
  • Assist with safety improvements wherever possible and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Record maintenance activities and refer to manuals, records, and drawings as necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, subcontractors, and the wider maintenance team.

Person Specification:

  • Educated to ONC/OND/HND/HNC/NVQIII or equivalent in Maintenance/Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in electrical fault-finding and maintenance, ideally within heavy engineering environments.
  • Expertise in maintaining and installing AC/DC motors and handling both single and three-phase electrical supplies.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks according to working requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work at height.
  • Experience with a wide range of motors, drives, and starters.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.
  • Qualifications and experience in HV switching.
  • Experience with pyrometry, crane maintenance, or 17th edition wiring regulations.
  • Ability to operate MEWPs or forklifts.
