Job description

Applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist to join a friendly and cohesive team of radiologists with diverse expertise in a busy department and a strong record in teaching and training. The applicant would be expected to join the existing radiologists in providing a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service. The post-holder will also support the running of service in our main department at St George's Hospital and from Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be expected, in collaboration with the other radiologists in the department, to oversee and ensure the provision of high-quality clinical services within the Radiology Department. This would primarily consist of providing a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service which includes general plain radiography, CT, ultrasound, and MRI. Experience and ability to carry out MSK US and MSK interventional procedures is essential. In addition, the post contains general diagnostic adult sessions in CT and plain film reporting as part of the integration with the wider department. Participation in training and quality improvement activity would also be expected.

The post-holder will also participate in a full-time diagnostic on-call rota (approximately 1:15), alongside regular weekend working (with time off in-lieu).

It is expected that applicants will have the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists and a CCT in Radiology or equivalent training and experience.

Job description
Job responsibilities

A standard full-time Job Plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities which includes 8 PAs for direct clinical care and 2 supporting PAs. Sessions will be a mix of acute/emergency work and outpatient reporting. On-call commitment is required. This post also includes teaching of undergraduates and radiology registrars in the department.

The diagnostic on-call is overseen by a single consultant with the support of a second consultant radiologist on weekends. Each week on call and weekend working is compensated by time in lieu during the week. The post-holder can expect up to approximately 5 weekends (on-call/second consultant) per year. The department addresses 7 day working through further sessional working in the evenings and at the weekend, some on a rotational basis.

Each job plan will be reviewed within 3 months of appointment and will be subject to change. Whilst it is likely that most of the sessions will be based at St Georges, some evening working and lists at either the Nelson or Queen Marys Roehampton may be needed.
