Fountains Abbey – Full time Facilities Assistant
We’re looking for a Facilities Assistant to join us at Fountains Abbey, Ripon

Working within a bustling atmosphere as part of a passionate team, you’ll play a core part in providing fantastic customer service.

Hours: You’ll work 37.5 hours per week but the shift pattern will vary. You’ll be working mixed shifts where one weekend day each week is required.
Open shift: 7.30am – 3.30pm – unlocking and alarming the estate
Close shift: 11am – 7pm – locking and alarming the estate. This changes in the winter to 10am-6pm
Salary: £12.25 per hour

Duration: Fixed term contract until 3rd November 2025.

Reporting to the Facilities Coordinator, you’ll join a close-knit team of seven. Some days start with unlocking and preparing the buildings, taking in the peaceful beauty of the undisturbed grounds before visitors arrive. From ensuring a clean and safe environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors to securing the site at the end of the day, your role is essential to the smooth running of the estate. We work in collaboration with different teams across the site, from helping to move equipment around the estate to aiding our visitor experience team in setting up trails.

Providing a great visitor experience and looking after this special place is at the heart of what we do, and we’re passionate about getting the details right. Whether you’re giving our visitors a warm welcome, caring for our buildings or collections, or improving conditions for wildlife, every contribution ensures that nature, beauty, and history continue to thrive at this special place.

As the Facilities Assistant, you’ll assist with the day-to-day cleanliness and presentation of the National Trust’s buildings and outdoor spaces. You’ll turn your practical hand to all sorts of cleaning and minor maintenance, ensuring all our facilities are kept in good working order. You’ll also be asked to help with some manual work such as unloading deliveries.

Duties such as cleaning, sweeping, and litter picking will form a core part of the role, both inside and outdoors. You’ll ensure the highest standards of customer service across the area by always implementing a ‘customer comes first’ attitude. General maintenance work and helping within other teams will also form part of your role.
