Then your next opportunity could be with Safran Seats, an industry award-winning, premium designer and manufacturer of First and Business Class seating and technology. Our passenger experience prides itself on innovation, customization, quality, and industrial design.

At Safran Seats, we are unique within aerospace, as we interface with both the world's biggest airlines and airframers alike, with the largest seats portfolio of all seats suppliers. One day you could be liaising with one of the world's largest airframers, and the next, some of the biggest airline brands around the world!

In the UK, Safran Seats specializes solely in the First Class and Business Class seating markets for wide-body aircraft, with industrial and engineering teams in Cwmbran and Newport, Wales, and Brackley, England.

The Senior Stress Engineer provides analytical guidance in structural and occupant injury simulation, working closely with other functions such as Design, Certification, and Production to ensure that seating products are lightweight, durable, and safe throughout their working life.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  1. In-depth working knowledge of aerospace industry standard stress analysis methods covering both hand calculations, linear/non-linear implicit FE analysis and/or multi-body dynamic analysis and/or non-linear explicit FE analysis methods.
  2. Assist with identifying certification test failure risk, and ensure it is managed effectively and minimized with the use of appropriate analytical methods and judgment.
  3. Prepare, review and approve hand calculations, linear static, non-linear, crash, multi-body dynamic and optimization FE models for seating products to support the design and certification process, plus the in-service life of the product.
  4. Prepare, review and approve stress and structural documentation to submit for internal/external customers and regulatory approval.
  5. Review and approve drawings, designs, concessions and repairs with respect to stress.
  6. Support the Design team in ensuring that products meet cost and weight targets.
  7. Identify structural design issues and recommend improvements and alternate solutions.
  8. Supporting root cause analysis (e.g. 8D/Ishikawa).

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2:1 Bachelors (Honours) degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Aerospace/Structural Engineering.
  • 5 years+ working in Aerospace or comparable industry.
  • Experience of working to industry standards and codes. Knowledge of Part 25 (EASA/FAA) and Boeing / Airbus specifications. Knowledge of ACs, ARPs, and Aerospace Standards. Knowledge of Aerospace Material Standards and Material or component test standards and post-processing methods (e.g. ASTMs and BBasis calculations).
  • Organizational and planning skills with the ability to self-plan and manage the technical work.
  • Analyzing structures made with high-performance steels, corrosion-resistant steels, aluminum, and/or composite materials of both monolithic and sandwich panel construction.
  • Proficient in root cause analysis (4D/8D/Ishikawa).
  • Prepare, review and approve advanced linear/non-linear implicit FEMs and/or non-linear explicit FEMs and/or MBD models of large complex assemblies.

No candidate will meet every single desired qualification. If your experience looks a little different from what we've identified and you think you can bring value to the role, we'd love to hear from you!
