Who will you be working with?

Melett Ltd, a Wabtec Company, are recruiting an experienced Senior Buyer to join their team in Barnsley.

Melett is a major global player in the automotive turbocharger aftermarket and part of the Wabtec Corporation Turbocharger Group. We pride ourselves on our product quality and service levels. We engineer, manufacture, and distribute turbochargers, along with the sub-assemblies, repair kits and individual components for turbochargers across the world to a range of businesses throughout the value chain.

Position: Senior Buyer

Salary: £Competitive

Location: S75 1HT, Barnsley (Onsite)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 08:00am to 17:00pm (flexible)

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Annual Leave: 25 days plus bank holidays (plus 8 bank holidays)

How will you make a difference?

In this role, you will make a significant impact by negotiating optimal prices and trading terms with suppliers, placing repeat material orders, and planning deliveries. Ensure timely material delivery and continuously seek new potential suppliers, benchmarking costs against existing ones. By collaborating with the Engineering, Design & Development, Quality, and Production departments, you will facilitate New Product Introduction, engineering modifications, and supplier resourcing activities.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Manage supplier relationships and establish positive working relationships with key internal customers.
  • Generate purchase orders, liaise with freight forwarders for shipment collections, and update/analyse stock reports to maintain target levels.
  • Expedite supplier deliveries, monitor performance, and resolve supply issues, ensuring timely responses.
  • Check freight invoices and customs entries, resolving discrepancies to ensure correct customs duty payments.
  • Negotiate annual price lists, delivery terms, and contracts for new parts, aiming for optimal long-term price, quality, and service.
  • Support engineering changes, monitor the supplier database, and manage resource projects for new suppliers.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality Assurance teams to select companies meeting technical, quality, and commercial requirements.
  • Place purchase orders for New Product Development (NPD), Capex tooling, samples, pre-production, and first bulk supply.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Experience of working as a Buyer - ideally within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to speak Marathi, Hindi, Punjabi, and Gujarathi for customer support is desirable.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and ability to deal with pressure.
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Strong number and analytical skills, combined with creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Computer literate, including good MS Office experience.
  • Good organisational skills.
