About us

UCL Department of Chemical Engineering is one of the top research and teaching departments in the UK and has world-class standing. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and has an extensive research portfolio across a wealth of areas, from molecular scale to complex systems.

The UCL Department of Chemical Engineering is routinely recognized among the very top departments in Europe and among the top 25 departments in the world in the QS World University Subject Rankings. Based in the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCL, the Electrochemical Innovation Lab (EIL) is a cross-faculty mechanism for accelerating impact, innovation, enterprise and research in electrochemical science and engineering. Our research includes materials discovery and engineering, fuel cells, batteries, electrolysers, CO2 conversion, sensors, nuclear fuel processing, hybrid vehicles and micro-generation. Abovementioned research spans from fundamental investigations up to analytical diagnostics, systems development and demonstration.

About the role

This role is ideal for a Research and Chemical Lab Technician who values safety and efficiency in research environments. The Research and Chemical Lab Technician will collaborate with the Lab Manager to support research activities within the EIL. They will also work closely with the Technical Safety Manager in supporting other research laboratories in the department. This will involve monitoring adherence to policies and providing safety guidance to staff and researchers, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and legal requirements. Salary is £43,374- £51,860 per annum inclusive of London allowance.

About you

An experienced Research and Chemical Lab Technician with a strong background in laboratory safety and operations, particularly within electrochemical research environments. The ideal candidate should have experience in supporting the installation, and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment. The candidate should be passionate about supporting cutting-edge research while ensuring that safety protocols are rigorously followed. The candidate should demonstrate proven ability to support and maintain safe lab practices working closely with both Lab Managers and Technical Safety Managers to ensure the smooth and efficient running of research facilities.
