Job description

Are you a senior commissioning Engineer who is looking to step into that leadership role, or are a leader and are keen to get stuck into new major projects? Do you have previous experience in supervising a team of Electrical/ Instrument technicians? If the answer is yes, this is the role for you!

The opportunity

Our client is currently on the lookout to expand their team and is seeking an experienced Lead Commissioning Engineer to join their well-established team of nuclear specialists.

Employment Type: Contract

This role has been deemed inside IR35

Duration: 6 months +

Location: Reading

Your duties and responsibilities will be:

  • To provide BMS System technical and engineering team Support
  • To be able to complete all relevant project documentation
  • To perform highly skilled commissioning testing on instrumentation and control apparatus as per written procedure
  • Perform commissioning activities on control circuits, VSD’s, AHU, level control devices, flow control devices, temperature control devices and pressure control devices
  • Review and carryout the correct execution of commissioning procedures, for assigned instrument/electrical tasks with guidance from the Project Commissioning Engineer's
  • To be able to read, interpret and work from vendor documentation, project drawings, schematic diagrams and equipment manuals
  • Analyse work problems and make corrections when required to facilitate the completion of system assignments
  • Lead the technical and quality requirements on projects
  • Ensure project adherence to company quality processes and procedures
  • Allocate tasks to the commissioning test team and monitor progress
  • Establish positive working relationships with immediate supervision and personnel departments
  • Ability to read, understand and follow ALL safe systems of work
  • Working closely with and supporting the Project Commissioning Engineer, in all aspects of project technical delivery and scope management
  • Identification of project opportunities and variations
  • To support the project commissioning team in identifying and managing risks and issues
  • To support the project commissioning team in the project delivery strategy development and planning for each BMS System.
  • To provide health and safety leadership by example

You will have the following qualifications & experience:

  • Previous technical experience in the field of Electrical, Instrumentation and Control
  • Previous experience of the Nuclear Industry
  • Previous experience of supervising a team of Electrical/Instrument technicians

It’s great if you also have the following:

  • The EC&I Test Team Leader (Commissioning) is normally expected to undertake the following:
  • Undertake or manage site surveys as required
  • Undertake or manage Toolbox talks within the team as required
  • Develop test specification & design testing methodology with the team
  • Develop site work documentation with team input as necessary (risk assessment, method statement, site test documentation)
  • Develop O & M documentation – with input from project team as necessary
  • Supervise full integrated system testing, CFAT, SAT and installation & calibration testing if required
  • Undertake or manage observations, variation and reworks

Chemical Risks and Hazards are in line with working on process and chemical site. These can include, moving machinery, working from heights, electrical hazardous, chemical burns, trips and falls, overexertion, cuts and scrapes, chemical exposure, inhalation of chemicals and confined spaces. A full site induction will be provided, and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.

Utilities. Utility site Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a utility site. These can include, chemical burns, working from heights, trips and falls, overexertion, cuts, and scrapes, moving machinery, electrical hazardous, chemical exposure, inhalation of chemicals and confined spaces. A full site induction will be provided, and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.

Petro-Chem/Oil Refinery Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a refinery site. These can include manual handling and physical activity, lone working, working at height, working in confined spaces (including wearing breathing apparatus). Bending, stretching, reaching, kneeling, crouching, lifting/moving small light and heavy bulky, working with hazardous/toxic materials, hazardous environment requiring self-rescue from worksite in an emergency. A full site induction will be provided, and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.

Nuclear / Defence Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licensed site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, working from heights, moving machinery, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise, and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided, and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.

Construction Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a construction site. These can include, trips and falls, cuts, noise, and scrapes, working from heights, electrical hazardous, moving machinery, toxic exposure, inhalation of chemicals and confined spaces. A full site induction will be provided, and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.

Office Risks and Hazards are in line with working in an office. These can include display screen equipment, stress, manual handling, slips, trips and falls, fire and emergency, work equipment and electrical safety and temperature. A full induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the building.

Pharmaceutical and Chemical Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a pharmaceutical and chemical site. These can include noise, slips, trips and falls (high-gloss floors), mechanical hazards, extreme temperature and humidity, pressurised equipment, radiation, chemical, biological, explosive atmospheres, working at height and confined spaces during cleaning maintenance and repair.
