Job description

Role: Lead DBA, Lead Database Administrator, Senior DBA, Lead SQL Engineer

Location: UK, Fully Remote with occasional office travel

Company: High Growth SAAS scale up operating in the energy industry

We’re supporting a scaling tech company in the energy space looking for a Lead DBA to take ownership of their cloud database environment with a strong focus on RDS MSSQL, PostgreSQL, and automation.

This role isn’t just about maintenance. You’ll be instrumental in shaping how databases are managed, monitored, and optimised across a high-availability, cloud-first environment working at scale, influencing engineering, SRE, and analytics functions.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Owning and optimising production databases (RDS MSSQL & PostgreSQL)
  • Automating performance insights, monitoring, and repetitive tasks
  • Driving best practices across observability, performance, and availability
  • Collaborating with SREs, Engineers, and Data teams to reduce incident rates and streamline data workflows
  • Leveraging AWS tooling (RDS, DMS, CloudWatch) to improve database efficiency

The stack/environment:

  • Cloud-native (AWS) with a strong focus on database scalability and resilience
  • New Relic and CloudWatch for observability
  • Automation-first mindset — scripting, tooling, and performance tuning baked into everything
  • Exposure to analytics workflows, data warehousing, and optimised pipelines

What we’re looking for:

  • Extensive production experience managing MSSQL and PostgreSQL in AWS
  • Deep understanding of database internals: plan cache, locking, IO issues, etc.
  • Strong coding and automation skills (clean, secure, tested code)
  • Confident collaborating with wider platform and data teams
  • Experience building frameworks and mentoring others is a plus

Why now? The platform is evolving. This is your chance to leave a mark — driving change through automation and shaping how a modern, cloud-based platform approaches reliability and data at scale.
