Job Description

Currently, we have an excellent opportunity for a Deputy Ward Manager/Charge Nurse to join a dynamic team in a mental health secure and/or acute setting. This role offers a balance of clinical duties alongside managerial responsibilities, where you’ll have the chance to lead a team, supervise staff, and contribute to the overall care program. It’s a great opportunity for someone with experience in forensic or acute settings, and we’re keen to support ambitious candidates who want to develop their career further.

Salary: £43,000 (entry-level) to £46,000 (experienced candidates)

Position: Deputy Ward Manager/Charge Nurse

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Setting: Secure and/or acute

Location: London, Enfield N9

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Leading and supervising the nursing team on the ward.
  2. Ensuring the ward meets safety, therapeutic, and statutory standards.
  3. Providing clinical supervision and supporting staff development.
  4. Assessing and managing patient risk in a collaborative approach.
  5. Contributing to multi-disciplinary team working and care planning.
  6. Acting as the role model and shift leader on duty.
  7. Deputising for the Ward Manager as required.
  8. Addressing staffing deficits and ensuring safe staffing levels.
  9. Promoting a culture of learning, inquiry, and development.
  10. Managing ward resources effectively and efficiently.

For this role, we’re looking for someone who has:

  1. At least 3 years’ post-registration experience in mental health.
  2. Experience in forensic or acute settings (preferred).
  3. Active NMC Registration and evidence of Revalidation.
  4. Clinical supervision and leadership experience.
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ambition and a desire to progress in nursing leadership.
  7. Ability to work flexibly within shift patterns.
