Job description

Applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist post with a special interest in interventional radiology in Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board, North Wales.

The post holder will be based in Glan Clwyd Hospital, part of an enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team supporting existing IR services for the North Wales region.

The successful candidate will join a friendly team of eleven other consultant radiologists and will contribute to delivering specialist interventional services, including the development of interventional oncology services and work in the vascular hybrid suite.

Flexible working arrangements will be considered, and an opportunity to increase sessions by agreement is possible.

We have strong links with the University of Wales, Bangor, and candidates would have an opportunity to develop research and/or teaching links with the University.

Main duties of the job

  • 10 session job plan (including 0.7 session for on call)
  • SPA - 2 sessions available, one of which can be off site, activities to be agreed with Clinical Director.
  • On call - currently 1 in 10, or less frequent, with prospective cover.
  • On call tele-radiology is available via home workstations.
  • Each radiologist will have responsibilities for teaching, quality assurance, and service management within their specialist areas.
  • Contribution to general radiology, on call rotas, and teaching of radiology trainees, undergraduate students, and other hospital staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration
  • On specialist Register for specialty or Specialist Registrar with CCST due within 6 months of interview date
  • FRCR or equivalent

Experience

  • Training and experience in interventional radiology
  • To be within 6 months of completing IR RCR curriculum or equivalent
  • Experience in cross sectional imaging

Clinical Governance

  • An understanding of strategic and operational issues underpinning Clinical Governance.

Ability

  • Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working
  • Counselling and communication skills
  • Basic IT skills

Management

  • Commitment to participating in and understanding of the management process
  • An understanding of NHS management processes

Audit

  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice.

Research

  • Ability to access published evidence
  • Evidence of participation

Teaching

  • Ongoing interest in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching

Training

  • Evidence of commitment to life long learning and CPD

Personal Qualities

  • Reliable, self-motivated and punctual
  • Flexible approach
  • Ability to work on call
  • Willingness to undertake professional responsibilities at local/ regional/ national level
