Job description

We are excited to announce a new opportunity at Haymarket Hotel for a passionate and knowledgeable Junior Sommelier. If you have a love for wine, enjoy connecting with guests, and want to build your career in the world of fine wines, we want to hear from you.

This role is ideal for someone with at least two years of experience working with wines in restaurants, whether as a waiter, supervisor, or junior sommelier. While previous sommelier experience is preferable, it’s not essential – a genuine interest in wine and some restaurant floor experience are the key ingredients for success in this position.

At Haymarket Hotel, our restaurant celebrates high-quality British produce complemented by a carefully curated wine list. We focus on sustainable wines and artisanal producers, offering a concise yet evolving selection.

Responsibilities:

  • Guide guests through the wine list, taking orders and ensuring impeccable wine service.
  • Maintain wine service standards, including care and upkeep of glassware and related equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Stock Controller to manage wine stock levels and integrity, including ordering processes.
  • Lead team briefings and wine tastings to enhance team knowledge and confidence in wine pairings.
  • Create detailed wine description documents to support team education and guest experiences.
  • Actively provide feedback to the Group Sommelier, Wine Consultant, and Group F&B Manager on the performance of wines.
  • Deliver exceptional guest service, ensuring memorable dining experiences.

What you Need:

  • WSET Level 2 or equivalent qualification or level of knowledge required.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a wine-focused role within a restaurant setting.
  • A strong interest in wine with the ambition to grow professionally in the field.
  • Experience in restaurant floor service.
  • Passion for sustainable and artisanal wine selections.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build lasting relationships with both guests and colleagues.
  • Flexibility to work a schedule spanning Tuesday to Saturday.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary of £35,000 p.a. plus service charge.
  • Access to Wagestream our financial wellbeing app. Stream your accrued earnings before pay day, benefit from everyday savings and real time financial coaching.
  • Health cash plan (including contributions towards dental, optical, alternative and complementary therapies).
  • Discounted cinema tickets, gym membership, travel, retailers and restaurants.
  • Complimentary meals on shift.
  • Referral bonus scheme for recommending top talent.
  • Flexible scheduling without split shifts.
  • Dry cleaning service for work attire and discounted personal dry cleaning.
  • Enhanced holiday allowance based on length of service.
  • Season ticket loan for convenient commuting.
  • Ongoing training, professional development, and fully funded English lessons.
  • Regular social events, team activities, and fitness sessions.
  • Benefits like cycle to work scheme and annual long service awards.
  • One allocated paid day per year for volunteering work.
  • Exclusive discounts at Design Hotels, staff sales, spa discounts, and product perks.
  • And much more!
