Job Title: Educational Support Worker
Location: Poole
Salary: £12.82 - £14.72 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time/Part-time

GSL Education offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate Educational Support Worker to join a welcoming school in Poole. This role is ideal for individuals who have experience in education, SEN support, or pastoral care and who are committed to ensuring that every student receives the assistance they need to succeed.

About the Role:

As the Educational Support Worker, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other school staff to provide targeted support to students who require additional assistance. This could include working with children with special educational needs (SEN), learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, or social and emotional needs. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring students remain engaged, confident and able to achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities of an Educational Support Worker:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to students with diverse learning needs.
  • Assisting with academic tasks, emotional support and behavioural guidance.
  • Implementing individual learning plans (IEPs) under the guidance of teachers and SENCOs.
  • Encouraging students’ independence, confidence and active participation in lessons.
  • Supporting children with SEN, speech and language needs, autism, ADHD, or other additional requirements.
  • Assisting with classroom activities, resource preparation and differentiated learning approaches.
  • Promoting positive behaviour management strategies and fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teaching staff and parents/carers.
  • Supporting students with social interaction, communication and emotional well-being.

Job Requirements of the Educational Support Worker:

  • Experience in educational support, teaching assistance, SEN support, or pastoral care is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection and inclusive education.
  • Patience, empathy and the ability to build a strong rapport with students.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, working effectively alongside teachers and school staff.
  • The ability to adapt to different learning needs and implement differentiated support strategies.
  • An Enhanced DBS check registered on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEN support are beneficial but not essential.
  • Have an updated CV (with two relevant references from the last two years and covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
