We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who will join our growing dynamic nurse-led team to deliver for patients with oncological, haematological and non-malignant disease. You should have experience in haematology and/or oncology and have experience in delivering systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT) and you will be able to develop your skills as a team leader.

The post holder will play a key role in developing nursing expertise in delivering systematic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) to improve the experience of the local population for both malignant and non-malignant conditions. King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a Centre of Excellence for Haematological malignancy and Liver Centre, we have ongoing clinical trials at both local, national and international levels.

We work collaboratively across the South East as part of South East London Cancer Alliance (SELCA). We are also part of King’s Health Partners and have close links with Guy’s Cancer Academy and King’s College London.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide and deliver expert systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT) within the trust.
  • Deliver innovative nurse-led systematic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) service, work closely with nurse practitioners to run clinics for patients receiving home delivery or self-administration of systematic anti-cancer treatment (SACT).
  • Support patients and their families, who will be kept fully informed and supported by providing clinical, emotional, psychological and social assessment.
  • Deliver and assist in the development of evidence-based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
  • Be an advocate for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both patients receiving chemotherapy and their relatives within King's College Hospital.
  • Confidently manage caseload and be responsible for safe chemotherapy delivery in accordance with national and trust guidance on the delivery of Systematic Anticancer Therapy (SACT), cytotoxic therapy for non-cancer indications across the trust.
  • Take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Unit Manager/ Nurse in Charge/ Head of Department.
  • Assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of nurses within the unit complement.
  • Act as a clinical resource within the unit and across the Care Group as necessary.
  • Act as a positive role model to junior staff members. Emphasis is placed on ensuring that all staff recognize their responsibility to deliver services in a high quality, courteous, patient-focused manner and to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
  • 1st level Registered General Nurse.
  • Mentorship programme or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Completion of a recognised SACT course and/or Completed UKONS SACT Passport.
  • First degree or a willingness to work towards this.
Experience and Skills
  • Previous experience in SACT administration, cancer care/haematology and oncology.
Skills and Competencies
  • Communication skills – able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions. Adapts communication style as necessary and is able to work with and through others.
  • Team building and working skills – able to lead a team to achieve results.
