Job Description

Sizewell C. The power of good for Britain.

Location: Sizewell/ London*/Manchester (hybrid working arrangements). With periodic travel to site

Employment type: Permanent full-time.

The Opportunity

Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Environmental Assurance Specialist. This is a key role within the Sizewell Environmental Services and Assurance Team. You’ll play a key role in monitoring environmental performance, conducting audits, and driving sustainability initiatives across our operations.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, with a hybrid working approach between our offices and your home. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively. The role includes the need for periodic travel and work at the Sizewell C site as well as your designated office.

The Role

You’ll work with the Environmental Assurance Lead to positively influence key stakeholders internally within the project, support the interface with regulators and associated projects to ensure processes and procedures for the management of environmental compliance with the SZC project requirement.

You’ll perform complex environmental assurance activities across SZC design, procurement and construction activities, working closely with our established environmental subject matter experts. You will need to present outputs from these activities to various levels across the business including senior leaders and externally to regulators.

You will work independently in the development of a risk-based audit process and develop ‘deep dive’ environmental audits on various areas of the SZC project, including but not limited to: SZC site construction activities, and upcoming workstreams such as pre-operations and commissioning activities.

You will be a focal point for the Sizewell C project, internal and contractors, communicating good practice and demonstrating adherence to relevant policies and procedures. Interaction with others requires the ability to motivate and influence.

You will undertake SZC investigations into environmental incidents, complete interviews, review and evaluate documentation, undertake site visits and write final reports, presenting to senior management at investigation review group.

The Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in environmental compliance, auditing, or sustainability programs.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and standards (e.g., ISO 14001, EPA, OSHA).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Strong assurance and challenge skills with excellent communication/interpersonal skills notably with various levels of the organisation and externally.
  • Certification in environmental auditing or compliance (desirable).

Why Join Us?

  • Opportunity to work on impactful environmental initiatives.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Supportive and dynamic work environment.
  • Career growth and professional development opportunities.
  • Experience of developing relationships or working with regulators.

If you are passionate about environmental performance and compliance on a unique and exciting major construction project, we would love to hear from you!

Sizewell C Limited (Sizewell C) is a nuclear site licensed company whose business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Sizewell C was formerly under the majority ownership of the EDF Group but is currently majority owned by HM Government and operates as an independent company. EDF remains a key shareholder in Sizewell C and the business therefore maintains close links to EDF as a part of its ‘nuclear family’.

As a Sizewell C employee, you may wonder why you are contacted by colleagues with an EDF email, or see the EDF logo on portals that you access and/or documentation you receive; this is because we have partnered with EDF for the provision of a number of support services whilst we complete a successful transition out of the EDF group.

Additional Information

Join the team at Sizewell C. The power of good for Britain.

It’s not every day you get the opportunity to shape the working culture of what will be one of Europe’s largest construction projects, while also helping Britain to reach its target of Net Zero emissions by 2050. That’s one of the reasons Sizewell C will be unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before, and you’ll need to be an exceptional professional to reach the high standards this critical infrastructure project demands.

The UK is experiencing a nuclear renaissance and Sizewell C – along with its sister project at Hinkley Point C in Somerset – is powering the change. We’re ramping up at pace as we look ahead to the Financial Investment Decision in early 2025, and the start of construction soon after. With government fully on board and public opinion shifting significantly in favour of nuclear, there’s never been a better time to join our project.

By submitting an application to this role, you acknowledge that you have read and understood Sizewell C’s employee privacy policy and EDF's employee privacy policy. Just to let you know, EDF will be processing and sharing information about your application on behalf of Sizewell C.
