Role: Laboratory Assistant – Toxicology, permanent

Direct Report: to Associate Principal Scientist

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week

Location:Alderley Park, Macclesfield, SK10 4TG.

As a result of year-on-year success within the company and continued business growth, exciting opportunities have arisen to join our team of Toxicology scientists. As a member of the Toxicology team, you will develop experience and proficiency across multiple platforms including High-Content Imaging (HCS), Seahorse Analyser, and Flow Cytometry whilst understanding how this data is utilised to support drug discovery and inform clinical development.

The Role

As our Laboratory Assistant - Toxicology, you will be working within our toxicology team which works closely together to support, coach, and mentor one another. Working with collaborative partnerships ranging from small academic groups to large international pharmaceutical and cosmetics companies, we champion the use of new science and technology to provide tailored solutions aligned to the specific needs of each client. We continually push to grow and improve our scientific offerings through bespoke projects and continual assay development. Our team currently consists of members with varying levels of experience and areas of expertise, and in response to our growing business, we are looking for another Laboratory Assistant to support the group’s further expansion.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Safety Toxicology screening assays such as High Content Imaging (HCI) for commercial activities.

• Perform work following quality control procedures, within specified timelines, and within safety regulations.

• Assist in running and maintaining robotic systems to support high throughput processes.

• Prepare compounds, stock solutions, and buffers.

• Routine calibration of laboratory equipment.

• Cell Line Maintenance.

• Work autonomously as part of the team to deliver team’s priorities, with good organisation and communication skills.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent), in Science, English, and Maths. A-Levels / BTEC or Laboratory-based experience would be preferred but full training would be provided for any suitable candidate.

• Experience in use of balances, fume hoods, and basic chemical handling procedures would be desirable.

• Highly self-motivated and personable.

• Able to communicate effectively within a team environment.

• Able to organise daily tasks, frequently work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.

• Experience working within CRO or pharmaceutical environment would be welcomed.

• Pension on completion (but not subject to) of your probationary period. Contributions 5% for employees (salary sacrifice) and 5% for the employer. The employee can opt to increase their contribution and the employer will match the increase up to a maximum of 7.5%.
