Job description

In-house Tax Team seeks a Head of Indirect Tax. In this role you will provide expert advice, ensure compliance, and drive efficiencies in tax processes. Working with senior stakeholders across the business, you’ll play a key role in managing tax risks, shaping strategy, and maintaining strong relationships with HMRC.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Head of Indirect Tax, you’ll be responsible for:

  1. Leading the Indirect Tax function, managing a team of 2–3 professionals.
  2. Providing practical, commercially focused VAT/IPT advice across the business.
  3. Building strong relationships with HMRC, ensuring compliance and proactive engagement, particularly on PESM.
  4. Overseeing VAT/IPT submissions, meeting statutory deadlines, and managing queries.
  5. Ensuring core systems and controls are VAT/IPT compliant for External Reporting/SAO requirements.
  6. Supporting major business and finance projects, ensuring tax implications are well managed.
  7. Monitoring industry tax developments and contributing to consultations via the ABI.
  8. Collaborating with offshore tax teams to enhance operational efficiencies.
  9. Owning balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  10. Supporting the Head of Tax in managing tax risks, reporting, and strategic initiatives.
Requirements

This role needs someone with a strong mix of technical expertise, leadership skills, and commercial awareness. You should have:

  1. Suitable tax qualification, either Chartered Institute of Taxation or Association of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.
  2. Experience of a Big 4 Tax environment.
  3. An in-depth understanding of an FS business and its impact to the Tax Function.
  4. Experience with tax processes, controls, and compliance requirements.
  5. The ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across the business.

Hybrid working available minimum 2 days a week in the office in Leeds or London. Great team in a well-known business.
