Job description

Major Recruitment are currently seeking a PROJECT SAFETY MANAGER / Permit Writer, for a highly respected client based in Middlesbrough.

£34,000 - £35,000 Annual Salary

39 Hours per week.

IMMEDIATE interviews available.

Requirements include:

  1. Occupational safety/health qualifications
  2. Technical training and/or industrial related safety and health experience
  3. Thorough understanding of company Health and Safety Management System
  4. Ability to recognise hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures is essential
  5. Good interpersonal and communications skills with multi trade disciplines, employees, subcontractors, and customer representatives

Basic Job Description:
  1. Issue work permits (hot work, cold work, electrical, paint & blast) as required
  2. Perform gas testing associated with permit scope
  3. Ensure compliance with LOTO, energy isolation, blinding, etc. associated with permits
  4. Ensure equipment affected by the work permits has been cleaned and tested and deemed safe for the work to be performed
  5. Ensure areas within the permit scope are secure and all hazards (fire prevention, sparks, and chemicals) are abated before issuing permits
  6. Ensure proper PPE is utilised
  7. Monitor housekeeping throughout the work area
  8. Regularly oversee/audit compliance with permit requirements and scope
  9. Understand, interpret, and provide positive support to the company's Health and Safety Management Systems
  10. Participate in daily progress update meetings during project activities
  11. Daily interface and support of contractor safety department representatives
  12. Daily/regular project audits of work in progress
  13. Assist with daily safety observations to trend safety in the area
  14. Daily random auditing of active work permits
  15. Discussion with operations, maintenance, and contractors on issues pertaining to safety
  16. Communicate incident details to appropriate departments and/or contractors
  17. Daily auditing of lock out tag out, hot work, cold work, confined space entry, and working at height
  18. Tracking of near misses, first aids, and accidents
  19. Assist with inputting incident information into applicable databases when required
  20. Assist with accident investigations
