Job description

Medical Education is a well-established team made up of Doctors, Clinical Educators and Administration Staff. A unique opportunity has arisen for a Simulation Technical Assistant to join at a very exciting time of expansion.

Are you enthusiastic about using your technical and communication skills to make a difference to patient care and safety? Do you have a creative and imaginative mindset? If so, we would like to hear from you. We deliver and design simulation-based education to give healthcare staff and medical students the opportunity to learn, rehearse and perfect clinical skills and team-working. You will be an integral member of the team that supports the technical and administrative service provision.

This post will suit individuals who can be versatile in working in different environments and those who are able to work within a team as well as independently. You should have the ability to create and maintain working relationships with all levels of healthcare professionals. You will be working within a small team of clinical educators where you will be expected to identify workload as well as being given tasks to complete.

Although you will be based mainly at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, it offers the opportunity to work with healthcare professionals, students and other faculty across multiple sites, and you should be able to travel to different sites within NHS Fife if required.

You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as enjoy problem-solving and troubleshooting technical challenges. You should be competent in the use of Microsoft Office as part of administration duties of the role and can move and set up large pieces of equipment needed for education. Training will be offered in the use of simulated manikins, task trainers, AV equipment and other mechanical or electronic devices used within this role.

NHS Fife is legally obliged to ensure all its employees are legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom. If you are not a United Kingdom (UK) or Irish National, you are required to confirm your right to work in your application.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

For informal enquiries, please contact June Adamson & Lorna Albrock at fife.simulationvhk@nhs.scot. Interested candidates are welcome to visit the department prior to submitting an application.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team.
