If you enjoy interdisciplinary team working and clinical complexity in a paediatric context, we have the role for you. Leadership ability, flexibility and great communication are essential for 8a roles within the newly developing Children and Young People's Gender Service (South West). We are a new team, learning and developing together along with other hubs as part of a national network of services providing excellent holistic care for children and young people with concerns about their gender. We need excellent clinical staff.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide clinical psychology services into teams within Women and Children Service, primarily within the NHS Children and Young People Gender Service (South West).
  2. To share with the multi professional clinical team psychological knowledge and skills to enable individualised psychological care in partnership with young people.
  3. To participate in research and audit activity in collaboration with other professional groups to increase the evidence base and support the sharing of good practice.
  4. To provide effective line management, clinical supervision and training for psychologists and other staff as requested by the Clinical Lead.
  5. To advise and work with the Clinical Lead to develop and implement service developments, policies, protocols and guidelines.

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Post qualification experience of working as a clinical psychologist with children and young people who have a condition relating to health.
  • Post qualification experience of providing psychological consultation and training to multi-professional teams.
  • Formal teaching/presentation sessions to health and other professionals.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of legislation and guidance pertaining to safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
  • Evidence of applying doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Ability to assess the psychological needs of children, young people and families.
  • Ability to generate systemic and individual psychological formulations and interventions.
  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

  • Doctorate in clinical psychology or equivalent.
  • Current registration as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council.

Aptitudes

Essential criteria

  • Advanced communication skills with the ability to provide and receive highly complex and sensitive information.
