The Kitchen Assistant/Kitchen Porter supports the smooth operation of the kitchen by maintaining cleanliness, assisting with basic food preparation, and ensuring equipment and supplies are organised. This role is essential for creating an efficient and safe working environment for the kitchen team.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Hygiene
Wash and sanitise dishes, utensils, pots, and pans.
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen surfaces, floors, and equipment.
Follow food safety and hygiene regulations at all times.
Food Preparation Support
Assist chefs with basic food preparation (e.g., peeling, chopping, portioning).
Prepare and stock ingredients as needed for service.
Ensure proper storage of food items to maintain freshness.
Equipment & Supply Management
Organise and restock kitchen supplies, including plates, utensils, and cooking equipment.
Monitor and report low inventory levels of cleaning materials or ingredients.
Assist in setting up and closing down the kitchen daily.
Waste Management
Properly dispose of kitchen waste and recycling materials.
Minimise waste through efficient use of ingredients and supplies.
Team Support
Assist the kitchen team during busy periods by ensuring they have what they need.
Respond quickly to requests from chefs and supervisors.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications required; prior experience in a kitchen is a plus.
Full UK Driving Licence is a plus.
Basic understanding of kitchen safety and hygiene practices.
Physically fit and able to handle the demands of standing, lifting, and moving.
