Position: Facilities Summer Student

Start Date: May 5, 2025

Employment Status: Summer Student (up to 16 weeks)

Reporting To: Facilities Supervisor

Contract Duration: May 5, 2025 – August 29, 2025

Position Summary: Perth County is recruiting for the position of Facilities Summer Student to assist with and learn various maintenance activities performed within the Facilities Division.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Assist with general facility maintenance on County owned buildings in accordance with O. Reg. 332/12: Building Code.
2. Provide grounds maintenance, including flower beds and lawn care/maintenance.
3. Assist with facility problem diagnosis and solutions.
4. Maintain County vehicle, equipment and tools in good/safe working condition.
5. Maintain detailed daily logs.
6. Perform general cleaning and maintenance duties.
7. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
8. Lift, handle and carry equipment, supplies, and materials.
9. Ensure that Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wear any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and report any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to immediate Supervisor.
10. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Class “G” driver’s license with a clean driver abstract.
2. Demonstrated interest in facilities management or related field.
3. Experience performing general cleaning, painting, maintenance (indoor and outdoor) tasks effectively and efficiently.
4. Experience following safety protocols and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
5. Excellent customer service skills.
6. Solid organizational and time management skills.
7. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
8. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
9. Reliable, punctual and the ability to work independently.
10. Working at heights and elevated work platform training is considered an asset.

Shift: Monday to Thursday, 7:00 am to 4:30 pm and Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (44 hours per week).

Hourly Rate: $18.73

To be eligible for summer student employment, applicants must meet one of the following:

1. Be a full-time secondary or post-secondary student at an accredited institution.
2. Be recognized as having a full-time status by their academic institution while applying for school vacation, practicum or work term, or planning to return to full-time studies in the next academic term.
3. Be in their final year of study and not planning to return to full-time studies, but still eligible for summer student employment until they graduate.

Students participating in education and retraining programs at the post-secondary level, though not full-time students, are eligible for related summer student employment opportunities, where appropriate.
