Salary: Up to £39,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Contract type: Permanent role

Location: Office Base is Salford. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working.

Job Introduction

This role is for a Junior Software Engineer in the Sounds Smart Speakers team. The Sounds Smart Speakers team develop BBC voice experiences on multiple platforms. The team look after the existing Alexa skill, which has over two million weekly unique users, and are responsible for delivering BBC Sounds to future emerging voice platforms.

Main Responsibilities

We’re looking for strong collaborators who thrive in an agile team environment. Our engineering technology is Javascript and Typescript using NodeJS, hosted on AWS using technologies such AWS Lambda.

  • Contributing to the technical roadmap for the core capabilities Sounds on Smart speakers
  • Collaboration with the wider iPlayer & Sounds teams
  • Providing operational support of the team’s services
  • Advocating for our 4 million users!
Are you the right candidate?

You will have experience designing and writing software for large scale applications in a fast changing environment with rapid release cycles. You will be passionate about developing and progressing within the team whilst balancing the needs of the our audiences. We’re a highly collaborative department, focused on continual improvement and learning. We’ve long since embraced Dev Ops, with AWS as our primary platform.

Fridays are reserved for personal development and cross-team guilds, something you'll have the opportunity to be involved in and champion.
