Financial Controller – Drive Financial Excellence at a Leading Sporting Organisation
A prominent sporting organisation based in London is seeking a skilled and proactive Interim Financial Controller to join their team. This is a key role within the organisation, where you will oversee and manage the company’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and laws. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will play a significant role in shaping financial strategies and driving excellence across all financial management processes.
The Impact You’ll Make
As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing essential financial processes, including the preparation of statutory accounts, budgets, and management reporting, along with cashflow forecasting. You will lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, providing valuable insights into business performance, while collaborating with department heads to achieve financial objectives.
You will manage a dedicated finance team, fostering their professional development while ensuring efficient purchasing controls and compliance with payroll and tax obligations. Additionally, you will provide support to the CFO and wider Executive Team, contributing to strategic planning, pricing decisions, and revenue optimisation.
You will also play a key role in maintaining relationships with critical stakeholders, including banks, external auditors, and other key external partners. Your responsibilities will extend to managing the financial aspects of contracts, insurance, and external services, ensuring robust financial reporting for major events.
Your Skills and Experience
You will bring practical knowledge of financial legislation and compliance requirements, along with strong financial accounting skills. Your expertise will be complemented by a solid understanding of risk management, IT systems, and advanced Excel proficiency.
Experience in the sports or event-based sector will provide you with an edge in understanding the unique business environment of the organisation. You will be adept at managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and generating new ideas to drive improvements.
As a strong communicator and team player, you will build relationships with suppliers, agencies, and department managers. Your ability to provide clear financial explanations, offer constructive challenges, and confidently communicate at board level will be essential for your success.
