Job description

Train with the Non-Religious Pastoral Support Network

Join us in changing the landscape of pastoral care for non-religious individuals. We have an incredible volunteer team driving change in chaplaincy and pastoral care across the UK, and we would love to provide pastoral support to more non-religious people in need.

Commitment: You’ll need to be able to commit at least half a day a week to volunteering. Tenacity, confidence, and interpersonal skills are essential to work effectively with religious colleagues.

Training: We run weekend induction/training courses to give you insight into non-religious pastoral care practices in various environments such as prisons, healthcare, and education. Role plays and practice pastoral care sessions will help you demonstrate your capability in providing this support. Successful trainees will be accredited to the Non-Religious Pastoral Support Network.

After accreditation, you will be supported to approach local hospitals, prisons, or other institutions to offer pastoral support on a voluntary or salaried basis. The time commitment will need to be agreed upon with the institution, varying from about a day a week to half a day a fortnight.

Application Process: Download an application pack for further details on training and the attributes we look for in a volunteer. Please complete your details below if you would like to be added to our list of interested individuals for upcoming training courses.

The cost of the course and accreditation fees are covered by Humanists UK for current members. If you are not a member, the cost of training will be £225 plus a £25 annual accreditation fee.

If you have any questions about the training or pastoral support, please contact training@humanistcare.org.uk.

This is an opportunity to help people during difficult times and ensure non-religious individuals have equal access to care and support.

Please Note:

The NRPSN Pastoral Care Course is for individuals with a non-religious belief system, including humanists, agnostics, atheists, and freethinkers. The course equips you to offer professional, ethical support in healthcare, prisons, education, and the Armed Forces.

As the official accreditor for non-religious pastoral care in chaplaincy, we ensure that individuals in these roles align with the ethical values and worldview of non-religious beliefs. This alignment helps guarantee that non-religious pastoral carers can confidently support those who share or respect a non-religious worldview.

If you are committed to supporting others within a non-religious belief framework, apply for our course and take the next step toward becoming a fully accredited non-religious pastoral carer.
