We are currently recruiting for a Markdown Optimisation Analyst on a Fixed Term contract.
As part of the markdown optimisation team, we work closely with our commercial colleagues to support them with the strategy and approach to clearance of products from stores. The team is responsible for the execution of the clearance pricing that supports driving the profitability of the organisation, and we play a crucial role in ensuring we exit store activity in the most efficient and profitable way.
We support the commercial team with analysis of inventory, pricing strategy, and future stock projections to ensure we balance holding enough inventory of a soon-to-be deleted product versus leaving shelves empty for weeks for the customer. You will also play an important role in managing the transition of our Future systems transformation programme.

“Find your role”
Your role will be pivotal in delivering cost savings back to the business by identifying inventory opportunities and savings whilst also optimising where we are required to spend money on markdowns.
You will work as part of a central team that collaborates cross-functionally with multiple other business units such as Commercial and Retail Operations. The team consists of multiple other analysts who each work on various elements of commercial activity throughout the year.
You will be pivotal in delivering inventory and markdown optimisation results as part of our ongoing range change activities within stores to ensure we exit stock most profitably and make decisions with the overall business at your heart. While managing activity week to week operationally, you will also have the opportunity to work with commercial & supply chain in identifying potential inventory issues and coming up with solutions to resolve these.
You will use a multitude of applications to help you deliver strong analysis and analytics to engage with various business units and inform the business on decision making and future opportunities.
While being instrumental in the inventory & markdown decision making for range change activity, you will also have the opportunity to analyse and optimise promotional and event activity to help identify further opportunities.
“Let's find out about you”
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of current operational processes, specifically around range changes and promotional activity, ideally with a basic commercial and supply chain understanding which will support your decision-making principles.
You must be comfortable using and understanding technical systems and also handling vast amounts of data while having the ability to present and communicate that data efficiently across the business. Given the volume and importance of the data and decisions you will be making, strong attention to detail is essential.
The candidate needs to be engaging and at ease when working collaboratively and cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders at once and be a strong, clear & decisive communicator and decision maker. Problem solving and solutioning will be key skills of yours, giving you the ability to make clear decisions with the interest of the overall business at heart.
We are passionate about creating a diverse and inclusive workforce, representative of the communities we serve, and are creating ways to inspire diverse talent to join Asda.
