Project Accountant

Location: Canterbury, Kent

Salary: £21,010 pa plus excellent benefits (£35,017 FTE)

Hours: 21 hours per week

Contract: Fixed-term from January 2025 until December 2025


The Project Accountant is a vital role for the organisation, responsible for overseeing strategic projects and ensuring sufficient funds are available for planned project expenditure within the Diocese.


As Project Accountant, you will:

  1. Manage the restricted funds of the Diocese.
  2. Prepare monthly reports and year-end schedules.
  3. Proactively review the portfolio of restricted funds to ensure full utilisation against unrestricted expenditure.
  4. Prepare forecasts for project income, expenditure, and cash flow.
  5. Analyse all project expenditure and provide detailed commentary on material variances against project budget.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will support the team in:

  1. Planning, preparation, and delivery of statutory reports.
  2. Publications, internal and external audits, and the Annual Report and Accounts.

You are expected to proactively challenge and improve processes to ensure that currently held information meets audit standards.


Qualifications:

  1. Degree qualified or with a professional accountancy, finance or related qualification (ideally ACCA or CIMA).
  2. Experience in year-end schedule preparation and project report writing.
  3. Ability to interpret financial entries to understand the nature of financial transactions.
  4. Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  5. Proactive in reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and clearing/or allocating balances.
  6. Thorough understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
  7. Advanced knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables, sumif/sumifs, and vlookups.
