Job description

CASPA is a small, local charity that encourages autistic pride and supports our members to have fun, learn life skills and make safe and inclusive community connections. Our vision is to build a society in which autistic individuals feelsupported, understood, andempoweredto be their full selves and to live their best life.

We provide clubs and activities, residentials, life skills sessions, and an online community for autistic individuals, as well as outreach services and support to families. We also promote understanding and inclusion through our training programme and campaigns with the aim of removing barriers to access and promote self-advocacy in the decisions that affect autistic individuals’ lives.

Information about the Role

We are currently recruiting for Support Workers to join our Juniors, Inters and Seniors clubs which run every Thursday and Friday evening during term-time.

During our regular term-time clubs CASPA’s Support Workers provide a range of fun activities and support to our autistic members of all ages under the supervision and guidance of one of our Programme Delivery Managers. 

Our support workers attend trips, holiday activities and residentials, supporting autistic children, young, people and adults to make friends, have fun, build confidence and learn essential life skills. 

As a CASPA Support Worker your main duties include

  • Responding to the needs and interests of our members by listening, valuing individual opinions, and promoting fair and positive behaviour.
  • Providing basic practical and emotional support to members
  • Undertaking essential tasks to support the delivery of sessions (including opening and closing procedures and preparing resources as directed by the Programme Delivery Managers). 
  • Encouraging the voice of autistic people and enabling our members to give feedback and make decisions about what they would like to see happen at CASPA.
  • Helping to create a fun, welcoming, positive atmosphere and family-centred culture at our clubs and activities by promoting and championing autistic pride.

£13.50 
Hours
Variable depending on the club and activity 

Location
Various locations across Bromley where CASPA runs clubs and activities, including travel to other locations during trips and residentials 

Interviews
Held on a rolling basis

About You

We would especially love you to apply for the role if you

  • Have an understanding of autism and related neurodiversity (desirable but not essential)
  • Bring enthusiasm and creative energy to make a difference to autistic individuals’ lives (essential)
  • Have experience working with young people who were identified as being vulnerable and/or those with support needs.
  • Can be available to work on a monthly basis, during term-time and weekday evenings. 

No formal qualifications are required for this role, but the candidate must have some relevant experience, and a passion for making a positive difference in autistic people’s lives.
