Job description

Instrument Technician - £45k - £51k plus call out gym private health cover


The specific duties of the Instrumentation Technician shall be as delegated by the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor and/or the Operations Supervisor/Superintendent and will include but may not be limited to:

  1. Identifying, scheduling, carrying out and recording routine maintenance checks.
  2. Identifying, scheduling, carrying out and recording non-routine maintenance repairs.
  3. Carrying out the routine servicing of various types of process control instrumentation equipment such as transmitters, controllers, analysers etc.
  4. Assisting/carrying out vendor specified routine maintenance.
  5. Maintaining all site services in good working order and applicable to safe working practices.
  6. Responding to 24 hour call outs or giving advice on plant breakdowns outside normal working hours.
  7. Carrying out general housekeeping to ensure facilities are maintained clean and tidy and free of preventable hazards.
  8. Assisting other technicians or operational staff as necessary, exhibiting a general understanding of the process, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems and their working.
  9. Carrying out equipment isolations to ensure that equipment is safe for maintenance.
  10. Assisting during the installation and commissioning of new plant facilities.
  11. Working alongside specialist vendor service engineers to ensure equipment servicing proceeds in a timely and efficient manner to acceptable standards.
  12. Liaising with and supervising contractors on company sites to ensure compliance with issued permits and acceptable work standards.
  13. Through training seminars and liaison with equipment suppliers, obtaining knowledge of maintenance requirements and techniques to enhance the efficiency and quality of in-house servicing performed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. 4-5 years maintenance experience on equipment related to the installed instrument and/or electrical equipment.
  2. Possess instrument qualification (apprenticeship or NVQ level 3) with a good working knowledge in electrical.
