Job description

Job Title: Senior Planning Enforcement Officer

Salary: £40,140-£43,240 per annum

Hours: 37 Hours per week

Type: Permanent

Location: Cirencester/Agile

Are you excited at the aspect of delivering an effective Planning Enforcement Service? An exceptional opportunity to join Cotswold District Council as a Senior Planning Enforcement Officer to drive a variety of planning enforcement cases, whilst delivering an outstanding service through a practical solutions-based approach.

This permanent role offers flexibility from working within the offices at Cirencester alongside agile working - allowing you that extra freedom and work-life balance. Our Planning Service is fundamental to the success of the council's ambition for a sustainable future, and we are passionate about leading on the climate and ecological emergencies in the area. From our strategic urban extension under development in Cirencester to supporting the delivery of affordable housing, our focus is to enable our communities in the Cotswold district and beyond to thrive, creating great places for people to live, work, learn, and enjoy in our ever-evolving communities.

The role will include providing technical expertise, advice, and direction to internal and external customers in relation to Planning Enforcement matters, including identifying and investigating breaches of planning control, and dealing with planning applications resulting from Planning Enforcement investigations in a timely manner.

You will have involvement in all aspects of processing a wide variety of enforcement cases, dealing with applicants, agents, and members of the public, within a vibrant, varied, and well-motivated team environment. You will be responsible for making robust, sound judgments in relation to Planning Enforcement matters and leading in pursuing formal enforcement action when necessary, including appeals and prosecution proceedings.

You will need:

  • Planning or related degree
  • Eligibility for full Membership of the RTPI
  • Substantial (likely to be more than 5 years) relevant professional experience
  • Ability to resolve complex issues by negotiation
  • Deliver commitments and take ownership of your own caseload, reshaping plans to deliver required outcomes

  • Full Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
