Job description

Senior Principal Management Consultant - Transactions
  • Full-time
  • Competence area: Management Consulting
  • Contract Type: Permanent

AFRY Management Consulting is a global consulting firm focussed on supporting clients through the energy transition, operating within a wider international engineering, design and advisory company. We have devoted experts within the fields of energy and infrastructure, operating across the world to create sustainable solutions for future generations. With more than 800 consultants across over 20 offices on 5 continents, and supported by 19,000 experts in design, engineering and digitalisation, we are driven by the idea of helping our clients find solutions to business-critical questions.

In our UK business, we work to help our clients understand how the energy transition will occur and what the future may hold as we move to a low carbon or net zero economy. We carry out work across the world, at the intersection of the mega-trends that are shaping our future, such as decarbonisation and digitalisation, the rise of renewables, and new technologies such as the electrification of heat and transport and use of hydrogen/CCS.

We are strengthening our growing transactions service line and are looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Principal to be part of our interdisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a track record in transactions who is interested in playing a crucial role in advising clients in energy and infrastructure sectors.

In this role, you will have an exciting opportunity to provide your leadership to the energy transition by supporting private and public organisations in making challenging yet fair and sustainable investment decisions that will accelerate their response to climate change.

As a leader, you will grow and shape the business, expand our global strategy and specifically our Transactions service line, and develop our talent. You will be responsible for strengthening long-term client relationships, maximising current and future engagement profitability, and contributing to our business development strategy.

You should have had previous roles, leading teams in the execution of large-scale due diligence projects in energy and infrastructure sectors which is a key element of this role. As well as managing and directing complex quantitative and qualitative analyses and leading subject workstreams comprising of other consultants and subject matter experts. You will thrive in this role if you build long term and trust-based relationships with clients.

We are looking for someone who will help to further develop the Transaction service offering by supporting the growth of the team through coaching our consultants as well as contributing to the development of our offerings and tools.

Partial or related experience is always valued and so we encourage you to apply and explain more about your experience in your covering letter.

We offer an inspiring environment, with a collaborative and friendly approach with its foundations in flexible working. We pride ourselves on having a good work-life balance.

We are looking for great people to join our team of energy market consultants based in Oxford or London, which also supports our wider network of over 20 offices on five continents.

Our Senior Principals are confident and enthusiastic leaders. We expect you to have the following experience (but we don’t expect anyone to tick every box):

  • Leading client engagements in complex due diligence projects relating to and with an established reputation and network in energy especially in networks and regulatory environments and infrastructure sectors like water, ports and terminals, and/or waste industry.
  • Guiding internal teams to deliver effective engagement planning and high-quality results for our clients while nurturing strong, positive, and long-lasting relationships in our internal team and with our clients.
  • Managing long-term client relationships of a M&A, investment fund, private equity, investment banking, corporate development, investment advisory from origination through (repeated) delivery including identifying opportunities, proposal response, budget planning, negotiating terms, closing sales, tracking and optimising engagement profitability, and managing engagement risk.
  • Designing, creating, writing, and editing clear and engaging proposals, presentations and reports in Word and PowerPoint that demonstrate a high level of visual and written skill as a communicator.
  • Championing knowledge management and the ‘circular knowledge economy’ by supporting and improving the way we and our clients capture, re-use and repurpose our knowledge assets.
  • Using your relationships, knowledge and understanding of energy and infrastructure transaction dynamics in the region to support the growth of M&A / transaction services alongside senior colleagues e.g. through sales and business development.

As we work globally, we value those who are multi-lingual, so please do let us know your level in any language in which you have spoken and/or written ability, and any experience that you have in energy markets around the world. For individuals looking for international experience, there may be opportunities to lead projects in other regions of the world.

We undertake a lot of complex analysis, a good proportion of which is numerical, so we are looking for people with an aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis which could be indicated via a MSc or equivalent, MBA, PhD in a technical or financial or economic field. Further qualifications like CFA are advantageous.

We value a healthy work life balance and are committed to your wellbeing. We will consider a range of flexible working arrangements, including part-time, flexible working patterns and we operate a hybrid working environment. Please include your preferences in your application.

We offer a competitive salary, a performance related discretionary bonus scheme and an excellent range of benefits, including 25 days holiday each year rising to 30 with continued service, private medical and dental insurance for you and your family, income protection, and pension scheme. We also offer enhanced maternity and paternity pay, offering 16 weeks full pay for both parents. This is also supported by generous family support options such as, back up childcare support and return to work coaching.

As part of your application process, please provide a CV and covering letter stating why you want to work for AFRY.

AFRY is committed to creating an inclusive & diverse environment and we are actively looking for qualified candidates irrespective of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, disability, or age.
