The NHS Supply Chain business has an ongoing ambitious transformation programme which is driven in large part, by the modernisation of much of the IT technology estate and implementation of new capabilities in the logistics network.
Management, steering and coordination of all key transformation activities is structured under a set of programmes and projects which, combined, form a single change plan across all aspects of NHS Supply Chain.
We are looking to appoint a Programme Manager to provide 9 months maternity cover. You will primarily be accountable for leading a particular programme, working closely with the nominated executive owner and Head of Change. You will enjoy high visibility across a £3bn turnover organisation, as you will work with business stakeholders, third party suppliers, and customers to understand key challenges, functional strategies and opportunities, and use those insights to help shape and deliver your programme.

What does a Programme Manager do at NHS Supply Chain?
- Delivers large transformational programmes, which include multiple technology, process, and cultural changes for customers and colleagues, ensuring that the team supports the end users throughout the delivery of the change so that the implementation is successful, and outcomes are achieved.
- Leads the particular programme delivery team including both internal and external personnel and teams.
- Responsible for managing budgets of up to £8m and delivering the key strategic outcomes attached to the assigned programme.
- In conjunction with the wider change practice, manage the coordination and balancing of change and transformation activities being requested of the key service delivery partner organisations, as well as balancing the impact and timing of change being implemented on functions and colleagues across NHS Supply Chain, its customers and its suppliers.
- With the support of the Project Manager, manage the delivery of large-scale enterprise-wide programmes that incorporate proactive and innovative solutions to addressing business challenges and achieving organisational goals and objectives.
- Pro-actively monitor the progress of work-packages within the programme including surfacing capacity, pacing, or resourcing issues and initiating corrective actions as applicable.
What skills, qualifications and qualities do I need to be successful?
- Proven industry experience of successfully managing large scale, complex programmes encompassing significant elements of technology.
- Extensive understanding of portfolio, programme and project management methodologies as per MSP / Prince 2 / Agile or equivalent standard.
- Expertise in successfully embedding large scale transformational change and how to track and realise the benefits that change delivers.
- Significant leadership experience in managing a team of project management professionals and influencing third party contractors and service providers to ensure transformation projects and programmes remain in line with the strategic objectives of the organisation.
- Extensive experience in scoping and priority setting for large or complex changes and engaging senior stakeholders.
