Job description

Job Description

Our vision is to be home to a fun learning environment where every child knows that they are loved, respected and encouraged. We want to ignite a passion for learning and development in children, providing them with the highest quality of care and education. Our shared vision and moral purpose was identified as the bridge and opportunity to close the equity gap within our nursery and local community, in order to secure progress for all. It is important to us to ensure all cultures are respected and celebrated with breadth, depth and relevance being delivered through our curriculum.

Our values are: Kindness, Community, Teamwork, Fun, Resilience and Trust

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, dedicated, enthusiastic, kind, compassionate and highly motivated Principle Early Childhood Educator to work within Cornton Nursery.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates to seek new challenges and implement new initiatives which include regular opportunities for reflection and evaluation of progress.

You will support the Head of Nursery to lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the nursery, ensuring that all children are provided with the highest quality early learning and childcare. We are looking for individuals who enjoy working collegiately with colleagues, and who have a firm commitment to improving the outcomes for children.

You should have a passion for working in early years and have experience, knowledge and understanding of learning through play. Knowledge and understanding of current documentation, in particular Realising the Ambition, Curriculum for Excellence – Early Level, Quality framework for early learning and childcare, school-aged childcare and childminding services would be advantageous.

You should have a knowledge of self-evaluation as well as planning for children’s learning and development. You will lead and manage staff and liaise with parents and multi-agency teams to plan for children’s learning and development. You should have a good knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection as well as understanding how Safeguarding sits within the context of the wider Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC).

Stirling Council’s Nursery settings operate between the hours of 8.00am – 6.00pm and employee working patterns will be required to meet the needs of the service.

Requirements

You will be required to work 35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

Candidates are required to hold a BA in Childhood Practice, or other relevant childcare qualification equivalent to SCQF level 9. The qualification/s will enable candidates to register with Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC) as a Manager of a Day-Care of Children’s Service without conditions.

The successful candidate will be required to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) for Children. If your application is progressed after the interview, you will be asked to complete the form and have your details verified. It is Stirling Council’s policy to ask that you pay for this.

If you’ve got the right skills for the job we want to hear from you. We encourage applications from the right candidates regardless of age (restrictions apply to Modern Apprenticeships), disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, belief or race.

The Benefits
  • 30 days annual leave plus 7 public holidays (rising to 35 after 5 years continuous service)
  • Flexible working including hybrid office/work from home arrangements where the role allows. Our colleagues are encouraged to work flexibly as we know that busy lives don’t always fit around a traditional working pattern.
  • Biennial incremental progression until top of your payscale is reached
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme. For further details visit Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Up to 6 months full sick pay and 6 months half pay dependent on length of service
  • Carers Leave
  • Up to 4 weeks paid Paternity Leave
  • Access to Health & Wellbeing support
  • Ongoing opportunities for Learning & Development
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Lift share Scheme
  • Car Lease Scheme
  • Technology Benefit Scheme
