TEACHER OF HISTORY
Contract Type: Full Time
Contract Term: Permanent
Salary: MPS/UPS
Job Starts: September 2025
Location: Harrow

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Teacher of History to join our successful and supportive team. The teacher appointed will be required to continue to raise standards throughout the school and will be required to teach across KS3 and KS4, and all ability ranges.
The History Department is committed to providing high quality teaching and learning for all students and the post represents an ideal opportunity to work in a happy, friendly and positive environment. We offer an excellent induction and support programme for new teachers.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. To teach History throughout the school in KS3 and KS4.
  2. To develop innovative, traditional, and non-traditional approaches to the History curriculum in order to ensure appropriate access and achievement for all students.
  3. To teach using a variety of delivery methods which will stimulate learning, meeting the demands of the curriculum and the needs of the students.
  4. To assist in the development and deployment of resources as appropriate.
  5. To plan and prepare courses and lessons.
  6. To assess, record and report on the attainment, attendance and progress of students keeping such records as required.
  7. To monitor and record student progress according to the school’s assessment policy.
  8. To maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and encourage good practice regarding punctuality, behaviour, and standards of work.
  9. To set, mark and record homework according to the homework timetable.
  10. To assess students’ work in line with school’s policies and procedures referring to student performance targets.
  11. To provide pastoral support to students with special educational needs.
  12. To run intervention or extra-curricular sessions if required.
  13. To teach some lessons in our primary school within the MAT if required.
Experience:
  1. To understand the requirements of the National Curriculum for History.
  2. To have teaching experience in a culturally diverse secondary school.
  3. To have experience of working with mixed ability students.
Qualifications and Training:
  1. To have a Degree in History.
  2. To be a qualified Teacher of History (PGCE or equivalent) or training for QTS.
Knowledge and Skills:
  1. To be aware of the requirements for the National Curriculum.
  2. To have excellent literacy skills, including proficiency in accurate written and spoken English.
  3. To have good numeracy skills (e.g. GCSE Mathematics).
  4. To have excellent communication skills (both oral and in writing) – the ability to make points clearly and confidently, providing information and advice in accurate spoken English, and able to understand the views of others.
