Job description

Axcis is working with a fantastic special school specialising in supporting children with Autism. The school caters to children aged 4 to 19 years, tailoring their provision to each individual’s needs. The school requires a 1:1 teaching assistant to work with a child who displays very challenging behaviour.

The perfect teaching assistant will need to have a very high level of resilience and dedication. Consistency is key for all children with SEND needs; however, this is 10x as important for this individual as his challenging behaviour stems from not just his diagnosis of ASD but also his lived experiences. This is a full-time role on a small group and 1:1 basis on an ongoing basis for the 2024/25 academic year.

Being able to work independently and as part of a team is key, to be able to take direction from the teacher and implement planning accurately and effectively. While you will be working on a 1:1 basis with the specific individual, you will also rotate with the class team in working with other 1:1 children and small groups of children (2-3). This is purposely done by the school as they appreciate it would be too tough for any one person to work solely with the specific 1:1.

This Autism-specific school is based within the Walsall area, and whilst car parking can be limited, the school has great public transport links, perfect for individuals looking to do their bit for the environment. You will be following the planning of the class teacher, ensuring to give feedback on all lessons and sessions.

While this will be a challenging role, the reward from seeing this individual engage and participate will be phenomenal. It really is an amazing opportunity to make a massive impact on this particular individual’s life and learning.
