Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Transport Planner to be based at our Distribution Centre in Northampton. This interesting role will appeal to an individual with drive, determination and enthusiasm.

Hours: Any 5 through 7 days 5am-1pm

Working with the wider planning teams within a network with over 50+ transport planners.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the production of an optimum Transport plan in a time critical environment, constantly review and maintain in line with operational changes.
2. Undertake all activities in line with KPI requirements and SLA’s.
3. Working on a rotating day shift basis covering 7 days, mainly 5am-1pm, but with occasions when flexibility is required due to operational requirements.
4. Work closely with the Transport Operations Manager and Transport team based on site, to ensure Transport hours are planned and used effectively.
5. Management of Drivers Holidays and Rotas.
6. Management of exceptions on the Time and Attendance system.
7. Collation of weekly finance statistics.
8. Assist in the production of reports for Senior Site Management to support KPI’s.
9. Work closely with key operational partners including other departments, depots and customer locations.
10. Other Site administration as and when required.
11. Reporting to the Transport Planning Manager.
12. Booking of Agency and adhoc transport when required to support the plan.
13. Creating Peak plans for events such as Easter and Christmas.
14. Learning other site based plans to enhance knowledge of the network and support other depots.

Experience, Skills, Attributes and the Person:

1. Planning experience is essential.
2. Ortec planning software knowledge is advantageous but not mandatory as full training will be provided.
3. Confident communicator.
4. A sound knowledge of the principles of transport operations and planning functions.
5. Good organiser.
6. Computer literate with good experience in using Microsoft Office - especially Excel.
7. Ability to work under pressure and flexible in their approach.
8. Sound team player and motivator who can work on own initiative.
9. Good numerical and analytical skills paying strong attention to detail.
10. Driven by continual improvement and high personal standards.

The above position will include shift and weekend working as the depot operates 24/7; therefore, it is essential that you are flexible in your approach to work.
