Job description

About the job you're considering

We're excited to be offering this opportunity for a talented Software Tester to join our rapidly expanding team, working at the forefront of technology.
The Digital Transformation Centre delivers application and platform services based on Java and open-source software. It specialises in the transformation of legacy solutions to modern cloud-native architectures.

We deliver solutions using DevOps principles and modern agile ways of working using a range of technologies including Java and its open-source ecosystem, microservices, infrastructure-as-code, NoSQL databases, containerisation, JEE and Oracle, hosted on cloud (AWS/Azure) and on-premise platforms.

Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time. You will be required to travel to our office based in Telford on average 3 days per week.

If you are successfully offered this position, you will go through a series of pre-employment checks, including:
identity, nationality (single or dual) or immigration status, employment history going back 3 continuous years, and unspent criminal record check (known as Disclosure and Barring Service).

Your role

As a Tester, you'll be tasked with a wide range of responsibilities so we're looking for someone who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and get stuck-in; someone who learns quickly; loves a challenge; who loves a job that's never the same one day to the next.

What you'll do:
  1. Checking and assessing requirements, including assessing testability of designs.
  2. Creating low-level test scripts and setting up test data in conjunction with external systems and teams.
  3. Running tests, collecting and recording results and then retesting to prove that errors identified have been corrected.
  4. Keep the wider team including the Product Owner, up to date with the test progress including any risk-based assessments undertaken and raise any issues when relevant.
  5. You'll be surrounded by some amazing people and working in one of the best cultures that you can find.

Your skills and experience

We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of the QA process, and experience in defining and implementing test designs.

You'll also have the following:
  1. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong problem-solving & collaborative skills.
  2. Experienced in API testing and tools (e.g. Postman).
  3. Experience in Functional or System Integration Testing.
  4. Hands-on experience in using automated testing frameworks (e.g, Cucumber, JUnit).
  5. Knowledge of Stubbing frameworks such as Wiremock.
  6. Understanding Non-Functional, Load or Performance testing.
  7. Experience using JIRA, Confluence or any backlog or test management tooling.
  8. Strong experience of iterative / incremental software delivery.
  9. Maintaining and executing automated testing cycles.
  10. Experience/Understanding of Git or other repositories.
  11. Knowledge of Agile.

Your security clearance

To be successfully appointed to this role, it is a requirement to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance.
To obtain SC clearance, the successful applicant must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 5 years, along with other criteria and requirements.
Throughout the recruitment process, you will be asked questions about your security clearance eligibility such as, but not limited to, country of residence and nationality.
