Flux is pioneering a new class of AI accelerators called Optical Tensor Processing Units (OTPUs). We’ve already developed functioning prototypes and are now scaling our operations in London. Our work environment rewards innovation, speed, and bold thinking.

The role

Are you an FPGA enthusiast who loves tackling new challenges and working with cutting-edge technology? Join our team and help drive the development of our Optical Tensor Processing Unit (OTPU) systems. We offer a supportive environment where you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—from software engineers to optical experts—ensuring a smooth integration of hardware and software.

Responsibilities

  • Design and refine FPGA hardware to meet performance and reliability goals
  • Work with software engineers to develop low-level drivers and interfaces for hardware peripherals
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers and optical specialists to align timing and ensure seamless operation
  • Implement real-time control algorithms that manage timing, device operation, and system communication
  • Improve the FPGA design over time as the technology evolves
  • Test and validate your design to ensure it performs well, even under demanding conditions
  • Debug performance bottlenecks and hardware-software interactions
  • Work across disciplines to help push our OTPU technology forward
  • Share knowledge and support junior engineers to help grow the team’s capabilities
  • Stay up to date with the latest tools and techniques in embedded systems and FPGA programming

Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in FPGA development, including working on high-speed interfaces and signal processing
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems and how components interact in practice
  • Experience synchronising complex hardware and optimising for real-time performance
  • Comfort debugging hardware-software interactions and solving tough technical problems
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent hands-on experience
  • A team player who enjoys collaborating in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment

Details

  • Competitive salary ranging from £100k+, depending on experience.
  • Stock options in a rapidly growing AI company.
  • Based in our new 5,000 square foot office in the AI hub of Kings Cross, London.
  • Private health insurance.
  • Bonus additional salary of £12,000 per year if you’re based within a 20-minute commute of the office.

If you’re excited about real-time control, high-speed interfaces, and the chance to refine system performance over time, we’d love to hear from you.
