Job summary

Applications are invited from candidates with suitable training for the post of Fellow in Paediatric Pain based at Sheffield Children's Hospital (SCH).

Salary will be commensurate with experience from ST3-ST8, nodal band 4 or 5. A post CCT (or equivalent) doctor is likely to be on the highest ST8 banding.

Annual leave allowance will be 30 days per year pro-rata, study leave is 10 days per year.

Main duties of the job

Duties

The post will be of three months duration. The majority of the work will be based in the pain department at SCH, providing acute inpatient pain management and outpatient clinic based service. You may be asked to provide some evening and weekend acute pain service provision which will be compliant with the EWTD.

You will be encouraged to gain experience in other centres within our network for wider Paediatric Pain experience. Depending on availability and your wishes, this could be a block or regular day-release. There is also opportunity within theatre based work to undertake regional anaesthesia for post operative pain management to further ultrasound based skills.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • CCT prior to taking up role
  • Postgraduate diploma in Child Health
Desirable

  • MSc in Child Health
Experience

Essential

  • Appropriate experience in Pain Medicine
  • Basic experience in management eg trainee rotas
  • Clear involvement in clinical governance
Desirable

  • Involvement in audit/clinical effectiveness projects
Knowledge

Essential

  • Has interest in research and undertaken clinical projects
  • Able to communicate well with children, parents and staff
  • Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues from medical and other disciplines
Desirable

  • Ability to teach
  • Shown evidence of interest in Pain research
