Job description

We are looking for an open-minded, collaborative Project Engineering Manager with a breadth of experience to lay the foundations of engineering delivery for the next 25+ years on the Global Combat Air Programme.

The Global Combat Air Programme is an international collaboration between the UK, Japan, and Italy developing a 6th generation Future Combat Air platform that will enter service in the mid 2030s.

Leonardo UK plays a fundamental role in the development and delivery of key capabilities for the Global Combat Air Programme, and you could help develop our next generation transformational product.

What you’ll do as Project Engineering Manager – Domain Development:

Successful delivery of the Global Combat Air Programme will only be possible through the creation of an effective tri-national delivery enterprise with a shared sense of identity and purpose. The advertised role resides at the heart of this activity. You will, in conjunction with other members of the domain development team, work to establish:

1. Productive international partnerships
2. A working ISANKE & ICS domain through enactment of workshare allocation agreements
3. An overarching set of development and governance processes that will facilitate coordinated and effective tri-national delivery of the ISANKE & ICS vision that are agreed by the four partner companies (Leonardo UK, Leonardo IT, Electronica, and Melco)

In this role, you will be the focal point for all technical aspects related to establishing international partnerships and the ISANKE & ICS domain. Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

1. Leading all technical aspects associated with establishing the ISANKE & ICS domain construct e.g. Joint Venture Company, Consortium etc.
2. Leading the establishment of ISANKE & ICS domain engineering practices including strategy, policy, and process, enabling efficient and effective delivery by geographically dispersed teams
3. Supporting work allocation negotiations ensuring technical viability is preserved
4. Supporting the creation of commercial agreements, ensuring they enable engineering delivery.
5. Providing Engineering input to bids and proposals relating to the Joint Venture Company, Consortium etc.

This role can be based at any of the Leonardo UK sites and will involve regular international travel.

What we need from you:

You really must have:

5. Significant engineering management experience, preferably on large scale delivery of electromechanical systems with embedded software for aerospace applications
6. Breadth of engineering experience and a good understanding of engineering functions, projects, and processes
7. Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis

It would be nice if you had:

1. Understanding of how engineering is delivered by Leonardo UK
2. Experience of all lifecycle phases i.e. Development, Manufacture, and Support
