Job description

Teaching Assistant Level 3 SEND Apprenticeship – Bar Beacon School

Key Details

  1. Salary: £6.40p/h (increases to £7.55p/h in April 2025)
  2. Working hours: Monday to Thursday 8:00am – 16:00pm, Friday 8:00am – 15:30pm (term time only), 37 hours per week
  3. Location: Old Hall Ln, Aldridge, Birmingham Walsall, England, WS9 0RF
  4. Apprenticeship Details: 16 months expected duration to complete, working towards your Level 3 SEND Teaching Assistant Qualification. (All learning is delivered online/ remote)
  5. Training Provider: LMP Education (rated 1st best UK training provider)

As a SEND Teaching Assistant you will work as part of the Special Educational Needs Support Team in supporting pupils with learning difficulties/disabilities. Your day to day duties will include:

  1. Develop an understanding of the special educational needs of the pupil concerned
  2. Supervise and provide particular support for pupils with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
  3. Help keep the pupils on task and well-motivated
  4. Monitor the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of the pupil
  5. Support activities outside the classroom to support pupils with their specific needs
  6. Organise, plan and review clubs that will support progress of pupils
  7. Support pupils in exams with appropriate access arrangements
  8. Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs, treating them with respect and consideration
  9. Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
  10. Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  11. Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher
  12. Support the SENDCo with developing, monitoring and reviewing pupil profiles and IEPs
  13. Help pupils with their reading
  14. Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils’ work
  15. Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
  16. Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record progress as directed
  17. Provide regular feedback to teachers and the SENDCo on pupils’ progress
  18. Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
