Summary

With this apprenticeship you will acquire all the practical skills required to become a multi-talented boatbuilder. You will also be able to understand and interpret a production plan and drawings, helping you turn any concept into reality.

Annual wage: £12,922 a year: (Minimum wage rates)
Hours: Monday to Thursday 8.00am – 4.00pm | Friday 8.00am – 2.30pm | 35 hours a week
Possible start date: Monday 15 September 2025
Duration: 4 Years

What you’ll do at work

  • Acquire all the practical skills required to become a multi-talented boatbuilder.
  • Understand and interpret a production plan and drawings, helping you turn any concept into reality.
  • Refitting and repairing existing boats.
  • Get an introduction into all relevant boatbuilding skills and select areas to specialise.

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

  • Cockwells Training Academy are offering the opportunity to undertake a 4-year Level 3 Boatbuilding Apprenticeship. During the Apprenticeship you will gain City & Guilds level 2 and 3 qualifications.
  • Cornwall Marine Network are providing high quality apprenticeship training at the Cockwells Training Academy, offering fantastic opportunities for enthusiastic individuals to join a highly skilled team of craftsmen and women.
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths if required.
  • Delivery method and location of training to be confirmed.

Desirable qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • Maths and English (grade 4).
