Job Description:

Do you have the passion and dedication to provide help to homeless clients?

We are looking for a positive and forward-thinking individual to take up a new role within our Housing Options Team to provide practical support to our clients threatened with homelessness. You will need an understanding of the problems facing vulnerable people in relation to sustaining and securing accommodation and ideally homelessness issues.

Are you a great communicator who can lead and guide conversations?

You will work with our team of Homelessness and Housing Advice Officers to assist a caseload of clients identified as requiring practical support to help sustain their current accommodation. Using a tailored support plan you will help with access to benefits, support services, debt management and provide general practical support and encouragement to those facing homelessness in their own homes. You will need to have a minimum of a year’s experience of working with vulnerable people with a history of mental health issues, substance misuse and debt issues and a knowledge of the welfare benefit system and what benefits are applicable to our clients.

Do you revel in managing pressure situation and demands from customers?

It is an exciting time to join New Forest District Council’s Housing Options Team as we re-shape our frontline services. This year the Council will launch a new allocation policy and a new homelessness and rough sleeping strategy which sets out the initiatives we will introduce to tackle homelessness in the area over the coming years. This post will form part of a new support team identified as vital to the service in order to further support homeless people in the district.

The Council is also funding new building programmes and acquiring new housing stock to increase our numbers of social housing and temporary accommodation.

We have a great team of people for you to work with and are looking for the right applicant to join our colleagues already working to prevent homelessness.

What’s in it for you:

  • 23 – 24 days annual leave (plus an additional weeks equivalent after 5 years’ service)
  • Local Government Pension scheme
  • On-site parking
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Wide range of employee discounts at high street retailers, including supermarkets, stores, and restaurants
  • Cycle to Work scheme which could save you around 40% on cycles and accessories.

With our head office based in Lyndhurst in the heart of the stunning New Forest National Park, the Council is an excellent place to work and thrive. We work together to provide a wide range of highly valued services to our community. We are working on some exciting and pioneering initiatives and projects, including tackling climate change, supporting the Solent Freeport (to unlock significant investment, create thousands of new jobs and level up our important coastal communities), promoting regeneration of our Town Centres and an exciting fresh approach to modern and innovate working through our Transformation Programme.

At NFDC we believe that all our employees make a valuable contribution to the work of the Council and that’s why we encourage a trusting and open culture where each employee is supported and respected equally, where ideas are actively sought and self-development promoted.

If you are interested in this position and meet the criteria contained within the person specification, we would be very happy to hear from you.
