ProSidian Seeks a Court Transcriptionist [Legal Transcriber] - Court Reporting And Transcription (CTS19) to support an engagement for DoD/Military Sector Clients. This position entails listening to audio recordings and typing out what is heard, ensuring incorrect grammar is cleaned up and corrected prior to submission of a written draft.

The Court Transcriptionist will work alongside court reporters in a legal setting to document proceedings, testimony, or other events, word-for-word. They will use equipment such as stenotype machines, steno masks, video cameras, and audio recorders to generate an official written record of the event.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively operate designated word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment.
  • Follow log notes and completed worksheets for all assigned recordings.
  • Listen to audio files and transcribe them into digital documents.
  • Maintain personal computer equipment and software.
  • Ensure strict adherence to client confidentiality.
  • Proofread and correct draft documents as needed.
  • Provide read-backs/playbacks from the real-time transcript when requested.
  • Review and correct transcripts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Transcribe legal, government, business, and/or academic dictation accurately.
  • Index and catalog exhibits.
  • Maintain familiarity with the latest transcription software.
  • Complete transcriptions in a timely manner.
  • Provide digital and printed copies of transcribed documents.
  • Must be able to commit to a Monday through Friday schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least two (02) years of full-time, paid reporting experience.
  • Good working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and legal terminology.
  • Ability to type quickly and accurately while proofreading.
  • High degree of familiarity with grammar, spelling, and sentence structure.
  • Demonstrated reporting and writing skills with excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
  • Legal, paralegal background is helpful.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Minimum of two (02) years of experience as a Court Reporter, Legal Transcriptionist, and/or Stenographer.
  • Completion of required apprentice and internship training in court reporting.
  • Must be a trained transcriptionist able to transcribe non-medical dictation.
  • Ability to type accurately at a minimum of 85 correct words per minute.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

  • Approved and Up To Date State Public Notary License.
  • Certified Notary Public (Preferred).
  • NCRA Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification (if applicable).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required.

TRAVEL: Occasional travel may be required within a 50-mile radius of Norfolk, Virginia.
