What you will be doing
Governance Framework:
- Lead the review, maintenance, and application of the Group's governance requirements and framework.
- Advise the Board and Senior Executive Team on compliance with statutory and regulatory duties.
- Manage the Business Assurance Framework and group risk register, ensuring business risks are effectively reviewed and mitigated.
- Provide high-level support for Board meetings, including agenda preparation, minute-taking, and action tracking.
Risk Management:
- Regularly assess and review the Group's risk management strategy and operational risk registers.
- Oversee risk management processes, including ISO9001 and BMS, ensuring they are regularly updated and used as proactive management tools.
- Provide training, support, and advice in risk management practices.
Data Protection:
- Act as the Data Protection Officer (DPO) for the Group, ensuring GDPR compliance.
- Oversee and implement data protection policies, working closely with IT and Business Units to monitor information security.
Board Support and Compliance:
- Support the Board in governance matters, including providing recommendations on changes to legislation, regulatory standards, and other compliance aspects.
- Ensure all regulatory submissions are made timely, including Companies House and Charity Commission filings.
What you need
Essential:
- Significant experience in governance, compliance, and risk management, preferably within a regulated environment (e.g., local authority, charity, not-for-profit, or public sector).
- Experience of working with senior teams, boards, and committees in a governance capacity.
- Strong understanding of governance models, regulatory frameworks, and legal requirements.
- Proven track record in risk management, data protection (GDPR), and audit processes.
- High-level IT literacy, particularly in MS Office, and familiarity with relevant systems.
Desirable:
- Experience managing governance within a not-for-profit or public sector organisation.
- Understanding of Corporate Risk frameworks and organizational risk management systems.
