Our Children's services include the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and our Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at St Michael's Hospital. We are excited to offer opportunities for Band 3 Senior Health Care Support Workers to join our dedicated and caring team. As a Band 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in supporting children and young people with their healthcare needs. You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals, delivering high-quality care in our Tertiary Children’s services.

Main duties of the job

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

1. Supporting the clinical team with observations and treatments.
2. Assisting with personal care and ensuring the well-being of patients.
3. Providing emotional and practical support to children, young people and their families.
4. Helping maintain a safe, clean and supportive environment.
5. Working closely with other healthcare professionals in a team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Requirements to Apply:

We are looking for individuals who are eager to learn, have excellent communication skills, and a positive, can-do attitude.

To be shortlisted for this role, you must clearly demonstrate on your application the following:

1. Maths qualification at GCSE A*-C / 4-9 or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.
2. English qualification at GCSE A*-C / 4-9 or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.
3. Level 3 qualification (or higher) in any subject.
4. Acute caring experience in an acute healthcare or social care setting.
5. Experience or a passion for working with children and young people.

If you do not have previous acute care experience, we offer a 12-week Band 2 to Band 3 Trainee Programme. This programme will equip you with the necessary skills and experience to successfully transition into the Band 3 role. Please indicate on your application if you are interested in this programme.

You will need to provide evidence of your educational qualification before your invitation to interview is confirmed.

Skills and Abilities

• Effective and appropriate communication skills both written and verbal
• Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
• Demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures
• Committed to providing high quality patient care
• Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard
• Ability and willingness to undertake appropriate training within given time frames
• Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and moving across wards/unit dependent on clinical need
• Enthusiasm and commitment to working within the healthcare setting
• Able to meet the physical and developmental demands of the role

Education and Qualifications

• Level 2 QCF Diploma in Clinical Healthcare support/ Level 2 NVQ in Healthcare/Health & Social Care
• GCSE A*- C in English Language or equivalent (e.g. Certificate in Adult Literacy at Level 1) and GCSE A* - C or equivalent in Mathematics (e.g. Certificate in Adult Numeracy at Level 1)
• Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (that maps to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker) or Equivalent experience

Knowledge and Experience

• Experience of working in a health or social care setting
• Be able to work as a member of a team
• Experience of time management skills and prioritising work
• Understands and committed to a caring approach to patients and relatives
