Job description

Job Title: Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Wareham
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start: Immediate
Contract: Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are looking for an engaging and dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistant to support students in Wareham, helping them navigate mental health challenges while excelling academically in a supportive and inclusive school environment.

About the Role: As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA), you will provide crucial support to students who face mental health difficulties, enabling them to thrive in their studies and personal development. Working alongside teachers and mental health professionals, you will be instrumental in creating a safe, nurturing environment for students to grow emotionally and academically.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer individual and small group support to students facing mental health challenges.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of strategies to promote mental health and emotional well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to monitor and support students’ progress.
  • Support students in building resilience and coping strategies in the classroom.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement, fostering a positive learning experience.
  • Contribute to a whole-school approach to mental health and well-being.

Mental Health TA Qualification:

  • Experience in supporting students with mental health difficulties (preferably in an educational setting).
  • A good understanding of mental health issues and strategies to promote emotional well-being.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting young people.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, as well as independently.

To thrive in this role, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
  • Possess an enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
