IT Systems Engineer is a member of the IT Infrastructure team, responsible for both the delivery of infrastructure projects and the ongoing support of the airport's server infrastructure. The role focuses on ensuring the smooth operation, modernisation, and security of IT systems while contributing to various business-wide projects. This position is designed for IT professionals with previous experience in 2nd or 3rd-line infrastructure support within medium to large organisations. As an IT Systems Engineer, you will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the airport's IT infrastructure. Your role will involve the deployment of new technologies, improvement of existing systems, and ensuring that all operations align with industry best practices. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Maintain and support our client's server infrastructure.
2. Ensure the continuous operation of primary and disaster recovery data centres through regular health checks.
3. Participate in infrastructure-related projects, ensuring they meet business objectives and timelines.
4. Collaborate with other IT teams and business units to ensure successful project implementation.
5. Enhance system reliability and security by adhering to and implementing industry best practices.
6. Ensure all infrastructure components are updated, patched, and protected against security threats.
7. Provide support for server, network, and related infrastructure issues, troubleshooting complex technical problems, ensuring system availability and optimal performance.
8. Identify opportunities to enhance infrastructure efficiency, reliability, and security.
9. Stay informed of industry trends and emerging technologies to introduce innovative solutions.
10. Maintain and secure the IT infrastructure, focusing on antivirus, firewalls, and endpoint protection.
11. Provide escalation support to the Help desk team.
12. Ensure comprehensive documentation of procedures and keep system documentation, network diagrams, and support processes regularly updated.
13. Provide out-of-hours support and maintenance when required.
14. Responsibility for the health, safety, and well-being of yourself and colleagues in the workplace.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

1. Minimum of 2 years in a similar role within a medium to large organization.
2. Proficient in Microsoft Windows Server technologies and VMware virtualization.
3. Strong understanding of networking concepts such as LAN/WAN, IPv4/IPv6, DNS, DHCP, IP addressing, VLAN, and QoS.
4. Familiarity with Office 365, Azure, and other cloud platforms.
5. Excellent troubleshooting skills for server, storage, and network issues.
6. Experience supporting business-critical applications, managing backups and restores, patching servers, and monitoring infrastructure performance.
7. Strong communication skills across all levels of the business.
8. Must possess all relevant work permits for the UK and security clearances (DBS and CTC).
9. Relevant Vendor training and certifications.

DESIRABLE:

1. Experience supporting mission-critical cloud-based systems, particularly Azure.
2. Knowledge of and experience with Palo Alto firewall configuration.
3. Proficiency in PowerShell scripting.
